Yep, it’s the start of that wonderful season- SPRING! Which means, in the most cliché way possible, it’s time to get fresh and clean… And what a better way to start than by spring cleaning up your cleaning supplies!
Think on it: everything about the spring season is just fresh and beautiful! Warm sunshine and the smell of blooming flowers, dewy mornings that smell of rain from the previous evening, and crisp afternoon breezes are just a small part of the beauty that is spring.
Why not bring that fresh and pure feeling inside your home too? Try a couple of these recipes for easy to make, chemical free, and cheap alternatives to typical cleaning supplies!
All-Purpose Disinfectant
(adapted from the manor)
1 cup warm water
1 cup white vinegar
2-4 Tbsp lemon juice
15-30 drops of peppermint or tea tree essential oil
Spray directly onto surfaces (for tough dirty spots let rest for 1-2 minutes) and wipe away with clean cloth.
Tub Cleaner
(adapted from Salt, Lemons, Vinegar, and Baking Soda by Shea Zukowski
Baking Soda
1 Lemon
Wet down tub and sprinkle baking soda all over it! Everywhere! Let sit for about one hour. Then, using half of the lemon as a sponge, scrub the tub! The baking soda will begin fizzing once in contact with lemon juice. When finished scrubbing, rinse. Your tub will look DIVINE!
Toilet Bowl Cleaner
(also adapted from Salt, Lemons, Vinegar, and Baking Soda by Shea Zukowski)
1 cup white vinegar
Baking soda
1 Lemon or old sponge
Pour vinegar into toilet bowl and let sit for about one hour. When ready, sprinkle baking soda on dry parts of bowl, and onto half of a lemon (or sponge). SCRUB! Everywhere! I personally recommend wearing gloves for this!
To help prevent a dirty toilet bowl, pour a cup of vinegar in at least once a week when you will be gone for most of the day (or just not using the toilet). Also, pour a cup or two of vinegar in the toilet bowl before any vacations!
Alright, that’s a great start. These three recipes are tried and true; I love them! I have about a million other things I want to try… if only I had a million minutes! Next endeavor: homemade and chemical free air/ fabric freshener! Also, I’d loooooove you all to share any of your homemade cleaning recipes and tips!

I’m always looking for ways to clean without using cleaners full of chemicals. Thanks for the “recipes” and tips.
Let me know what other supplies you come across.. I’d love to add more to my collection!
